Brigsby Bear is a 2017 American comedy-drama film directed by Dave McCary in his feature directorial debut, written by Kevin Costello and Kyle Mooney, and starring Mooney, Claire Danes, Mark Hamill, Greg Kinnear, Andy Samberg, Matt Walsh, and Michaela Watkins. The story follows a man who was kidnapped as a baby and lived in isolation inside a bunker where he became fixated on a children’s television program featuring a character called Brigsby Bear; when he is found by authorities and discovers that the show was created exclusively for him by one of his captors, he continues the narrative on his own.

The project originated from McCary, Mooney, and Costello's high school days of creating short films together, with the concept rooted in Mooney’s interest in 1980s children’s programming. Principal photography occurred in Utah during a break from Saturday Night Live work in 2016 shared by Mooney and McCary. The movie debuted at the Sundance Film Festival on January 23, 2017, then opened in theaters through Sony Pictures Classics on July 28. Critics responded favorably to Brigsby Bear, highlighting its screenplay, direction, acting, visual elements, and emotional resonance.
