AnimatedComedyMusical comedy

A 2021 American animated musical comedy film, Vivo stars a music-oriented kinkajou named Vivo who sets off on a major quest to complete his purpose by delivering a love song to retiring performer Marta Sandoval. Directed by Kirk DeMicco and written by DeMicco and Quiara Alegría Hudes, the movie features original songs composed by Lin-Manuel Miranda, who also acts as executive producer and provides Vivo’s voice. Additional voices include Ynairaly Simo, Zoe Saldaña, Juan de Marcos, Brian Tyree Henry, and Gloria Estefan.

The project originated at DreamWorks Animation in 2010 when Miranda pitched it following the success of In the Heights, but was dropped during a company restructuring in 2015. It was revived and accelerated in December 2016 by Sony Pictures Animation. Announcements regarding cast members occurred in April 2021. Miranda’s musical collaborator and longtime musical director Alex Lacamoire created the film's soundtrack.

Vivo premiered in select theaters on July 30, 2021, with a digital release on Netflix of August 6, 2021. Critics responded favorably to the film.
