Tom and Jerry is a 2021 American comedy film that serves as the second theatrical release featuring the cartoon characters created by William Hanna and Joseph Barbera. Produced by Warner Animation Group, it follows the 1992 Tom and Jerry: The Movie. The live-action animated film was directed by Tim Story and written by Kevin Costello, with Chloë Grace Moretz, Michael Peña, Colin Jost, Rob Delaney, and Ken Jeong starring.
After being stuck in development for years, including a 2009 live-action attempt and a 2015 animated version, the hybrid film was announced in 2018 with Story as director. Principal photography occurred at Warner Bros. Studios, Leavesden from July to September 2019. Christopher Lennertz composed the soundtrack.
Released by Warner Bros. Pictures in the United States on February 26, 2021, the film also appeared on HBO Max for one month. Critics responded negatively, and it earned $136 million globally against a $50-79 million budget.
