The Tomorrow War is a 2021 American military science-fiction film starring Chris Pratt and directed by Chris McKay. The screenplay was written by Zach Dean, while David Ellison, Dana Goldberg, Don Granger, David S. Goyer, Jules Daly, and Adam Kolbrenner handled production. Supporting roles include Yvonne Strahovski, J. K. Simmons, Betty Gilpin, Sam Richardson, Edwin Hodge, Jasmine Mathews, Ryan Kiera Armstrong, and Keith Powers. The story involves present-day soldiers and civilians who are transported to the future to battle a destructive alien swarm.
The film was initially scheduled for release in theaters by Paramount Pictures but was instead distributed by Amazon Studios because of the 19 pandemic. It premiered digitally on July 2, 2021 through Prime Video. With an US$200 million budget, it became one of the most expensive titles to launch on a streaming service. Critics gave the film mixed reviews, appreciating its concept, action scenes, and acting—especially from Pratt and Richardson—but faulting its unoriginal approach. A sequel is currently in development.
