Snake Eyes 2021
Snake Eyes is a 2021 American superhero film rooted in Hasbro's G.I. Joe toy line character of the same name. This movie functions as an origin story for Snake Eyes and also acts as a reboot within the G.I. Joe franchise, marking the third entry in the series. The film was directed by Robert Schwentke and features a screenplay written by Evan Spiliotopoulos, Joe Shrapnel, and Anna Waterhouse. Henry Golding portrays the titular character, a man seeking to join a ninja group while pursuing justice for his father's death. Supporting actors include Andrew Koji, Úrsula Corberó, Samara Weaving, and Iko Uwais.
The production began with an announcement in May 2018, followed by August 2019 being cast as Snake Eyes, with additional casting completed over later months. Principal photography occurred in Vancouver and Japan between October 2019 and February 2020, with reshoots conducted in March 2021. The film premiered in the United States through Paramount Pictures on July 23, 2021. Critics responded with mixed reviews, and the movie earned only $40 million worldwide, falling short of its $88–110 million budget, resulting in a financial failure.
