Halloween Kills 2021
Horror thrillerSlasherHalloween
Halloween Kills is a 2021 American slasher film directed by David Gordon Green, and co-written by Green, Danny McBride, and Scott Teems. It stands as the sequel to Halloween (2018) and the twelfth entry in the Halloween franchise. The movie features Jamie Lee Curtis, Judy Greer, Andi Matichak, Will Patton, Thomas Mann, Jim Cummings, and Anthony Michael Hall. The story opens on the same night that the prior film ended, with James Jude Courtney returning as Michael Myers, whose presence has become known to residents of Haddonfield.
Jason Blum acted as producer through his Blumhouse Productions banner, working together with Malek Akkad and Bill Block. Additional executive producers are Jamie Lee Curtis and John Carpenter, while Carpenter returned to compose the score with his son Cody Carpenter and Daniel Davies. Prior to release, McBride stated that he and Green had initially planned to pitch two films to be shot simultaneously but later chose to wait and assess the first film's response. After the 2018 movie achieved both critical and commercial success, work on the follow-up started as early as October 2018. By February 2019, Teems was brought in to co-write the screenplay. The film’s name officially debuted in July 2019 along with its sequel announcement. Principal filming commenced in September 2019 in Wilmington, North Carolina and wrapped up in November of the same year.
Due to a one-year delay caused by the COVID-19 pandemic, Halloween Kills premiered worldwide at the 78th Venice International Film Festival on September 8, 2021, before its theatrical debut in the United States on October 15, 2021 by Universal Pictures. Critics responded with mixed reviews, appreciating the film’s visual effects, music, cinematography, and performances (especially those of Curtis, Greer, and Matichak), while criticizing its script, direction, and storyline. Despite these criticisms, the film proved financially successful, earning over $133 million globally. A third film, Halloween Ends, was released on October 14, 2022.
