Gunpowder Milkshake is a 2021 action thriller film directed by Navot Papushado, who also co-wrote the screenplay with Ehud Lavski. The movie features Karen Gillan in the role of a young hitwoman forced to join her distant mother (Lena Headey) and former coworkers (Carla Gugino, Michelle Yeoh, and Angela Bassett) to rescue a child (Chloe Coleman) from deadly hired killers. These assassins were sent by the devastated father of a man killed on orders from Nathan (Paul Giamatti), who leads HR at The Firm.
Production began after an announcement at the American Film Market in 2018. Casting started in January 2019 with Gillan, and principal photography occurred between June and August 2019 in Berlin. This film is a collaboration between The Picture Company, Babelsberg Studio, and StudioCanal's German division, with support from French broadcasters Canal+ and Ciné+.
The United States premiere happened on July 14, 2021 through Netflix, with a limited theatrical showing. It opened in France on July 21 via StudioCanal, and in Germany on December 2, 2021. Critics gave the film a mixed response. A follow-up is currently being developed.
