Clifford the Big Red Dog is a 2021 live-action animated urban fantasy comedy film produced by Walt Becker and written by Blaise Hemingway, with contributions from Jay Scherick and David Ronn, and a story developed by Justin Malen and Ellen Rapoport, adapted from the children's book series created by Norman Bridwell. The movie features Jack Whitehall, Darby Camp, Tony Hale, Sienna Guillory, David Alan Grier, Russell Wong, Kenan Thompson and John Cleese in leading roles.
The film made an unannounced appearance on August 26, 2021 during the 2021 CinemaCon event held in Los Angeles. Originally planned for a showing at the 2021 Toronto International Film Festival in September 2021, it was set to open in U.S. theaters on September 17 following delays caused by the COVID-19 pandemic under Paramount Pictures. However, due to the spread of the SARS-CoV-2 Delta variant, the film was removed from the festival lineup and its release date was taken off Paramount’s schedule. Eventually, it was released simultaneously in theaters and on Paramount+ on November 10, 2021 in the United States. Critics gave it mixed reviews, and it earned $116 million globally.
