Mario & Luigi: Brothership 2024
Mario & Luigi: Brothership is a 2024 role-playing video game developed by Acquire and published by Nintendo for the Nintendo Switch. It is the sixth installment in the Mario & Luigi series.
The game begins when a strange portal appears, transporting Mario and Luigi along with other Mushroom Kingdom residents to the realm of Concordia. There, they must work together to restore unity to a land torn apart by a dark force that isolates its people. Players control the brothers as they journey through Concordia, solving puzzles, accepting quests, and fighting enemies using turn-based combat.
The game was first revealed during a Nintendo Direct in June 2024, marking a shift in development following AlphaDream’s 2019 bankruptcy. At that time, Acquire announced plans for a fully 3D experience designed for home consoles. The team emphasized more exploration and questing, along with updated battle mechanics focused on teamwork and coordinated attacks. Players navigate Shipshape Island to move between different regions of Concordia, with access expanding as the island reconnects and new areas become available.
Critics responded positively overall, praising the visuals, combat system, and narrative elements. However, some found the “Luigi Logic” feature divisive, and concerns were raised about pacing and technical performance. This title marked the final game featuring Samantha Kelly voicing Princess Peach and Toad, with Courtney Lin and Laila Berzins taking over those roles in Mario Kart World.
