Resident Evil 4 is a 2023 survival horror video game developed and published by Capcom. This remake version of the original 2005 game Resident Evil 4 launched on PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, Windows, and Xbox Series X/S platforms on March 24, 2023. Additional versions for iOS, iPadOS, and macOS appeared on December 20, 2023, while a Nintendo Switch 2 edition released on October 16, 2026.
In the game, players control US agent Leon S. Kennedy as he attempts to rescue Ashley Graham, the daughter of the US president, from a strange cult located in rural Spain. The remake features an updated storyline, enhanced visuals, revised characters, new voice actors, and redesigned gameplay elements aligned with Biohazard (2017), Village (2021), and other recent Resident Evil remakes. The development team expanded Ashley’s character depth and her dynamic with Leon, using Capcom's RE Engine technology. Two downloadable content additions were released: the minigame Mercenaries allowing players to fight waves of enemies, and the side story Separate Ways where players take on the role of agent Ada Wong.
Resident Evil 4 earned widespread critical praise and was shortlisted for the Golden Joystick Award for Ultimate Game of the Year and The Game Award for Game of the Year. By April 2025, it had sold over 10 million copies, becoming the fastest-selling title in the series until surpassed by Resident Evil Requiem in 2026. As of October 2026, Resident Evil 4 has accumulated a total of 17.15 million units sold.
