Mortal Kombat 1 2023
Mortal Kombat 1 is a 2023 fighting video game developed by NetherRealm Studios and published by Warner Bros. Games. It represents the twelfth primary entry in the Mortal Kombat series, functioning as the franchise's second reboot following the 2011 Mortal Kombat title. The narrative unfolds after events from the 2019 Mortal Kombat 11, within a newly established timeline—the third major one in the series' history—created by Liu Kang during his conclusion in the 11s Aftermath expansion. Within this new timeline, Liu Kang gathers a group of warriors to compete in a fresh Mortal Kombat tournament on Outworld, while facing an alliance led by Titan Shang Tsung. The sequel expansion, Khaos Reigns, sees Liu Kang and his companions confronting Titan Havik.
The game launched on Nintendo Switch, PlayStation 5, Windows, and Xbox Series X/S on September 19, 2023. Most versions of Mortal Kombat 1 earned generally favorable reviews from critics, highlighting improvements in visual quality, character roster, initial story mode, and updated gameplay features. However, some criticism was directed toward microtransactions and the second story mode. At launch, the Switch version received unfavorable reception due to technical problems, graphical limitations, and extended load times. The title has sold over 8 million units worldwide.
