Jude Saves the World 2023
Jude Saves the World is a 2023 children’s book written by Canadian author Ronnie Riley and published by Scholastic Press. The story follows a 12-year-old non-binary character named Jude, who narrates their experiences in first person. Throughout the school year, Jude works with their best friend Dallas and support from the local librarian to create a safe library space for people of all ages to share their thoughts about school, work, friendships, and family. In the summer of 2025, a discussion of the LGBTQ themes in this book during a college course on Children’s Literature at Texas A&M University’s College of Arts and Sciences led to the dismissal of the instructor, the demotion of two administrators, the resignation of the university president, and widespread national media coverage.
